Why three to four steps? Because with my steps below, you don’t always need to wear concealer, seriously! While I love to play with makeup, I don’t like to feel like I’m wearing foundation makeup. I want to be able to put it on and then forget about it.
But I – and I know I’m not the only one – also don’t want to sacrifice coverage to get a lightweight feel. Follow these makeup tips and you’ll get both: a light powdery finish with ammmmazing coverage. Bonus: all of this only takes a few minutes!
1. Prime
You wouldn’t paint a red wall without priming it first, right? Face primer is much the same way. It fills in pores and creates an even surface. It also helps your makeup stay in place! Tip: Allow primer to dry for about 5 minutes before applying face makeup. I’ll often put on Younique’s face primer, then go chase the kids around or brush my teeth.
2. Foundation
Yes, foundation before concealer. Why? You use less product this way!
For one, if you apply concealer first, even if you’re wearing primer, you’ll tend to wipe it away since it’s a bit thicker than foundation. But when you do foundation first, you’ll often find that the foundation alone can cover blemishes or redness, meaning you may not even need concealer. The pic to the right is me wearing my favorite Younique Touch liquid foundation (with a touch of concealer under my eyes… but for that makeup tip read on). To get your perfect foundation and color match, take the survey.
(Want to make your makeup routine even faster? Drop that liquid foundation on your brush, AND put a drop of concealer on there too, and apply at the same time! Watch this video to learn how).
3. Concealer
Concealer can be used in a couple ways… either use it for more coverage (with a shade that matches your foundation), or lighten your undereyes (with a shade 1-2 lighter than your foundation). When lightening under eyes, be sure to apply the concealer in a triangle shape. This way you won’t accentuate your undereye circles. Watch the makeup tutorial video. (I’m using Younique’s Perfecting Concealer).
4. Set
Time to keep all that amazing makeup in place! Make it sweatproof by using a setting spray or setting powder. The spray will also give you a dewy finish, while the powder provides more of a matte finish. Both can be used as primer (and more!) too. Watch how to apply setting spray and how setting powder stops makeup from budging.
And voila… flawless makeup done with just 3-4 easy makeup tricks!
