More than any other season, I want to be able to put on my makeup, forget about it, but not worry it’s going to melt off my face by the end of the day. I’ll be honest… I tend to wear less makeup in the Summer, but the makeup I do wear? I want it to stay in place all day long. Makeup hacks to the rescue! As always these makeup hacks – as well as some other Summer makeup tips – are perfect for busy moms, both during the Summer but also year round too…
Primer
It’s a crime not to prime. But seriously… I don’t care what foundation you wear, wear primer underneath it! Not only does primer help fill in your pores, but it helps makeup stay in place even in hot and sweaty weather.
Go with Shimmery Eye Shadow Color
Uncomplicate eye shadow and swipe on just one eye shadow color. Shimmery eye shadow is totally in this season too, so double win with vibrant Splurge cream eye shadows. Swipe it on and be done!
Skip the Liner, Focus on the Lashes
It’s a rare day that I say skip the eye liner, since I love how it emphasizes it my eyes. But for a easy peasy beach makeup look, just lengthen those lashes with a water-resistant mascara. Just remember, wiggle, wiggle, swipe… and blink for your best mascara results (see the Younique Epic mascara tutorial video on the right vs wrong way to apply mascara).
(I get asked a lot too… what’s the difference between water resistant and water proof? Waterproof requires a stronger remover to take the makeup off… water resistant doesn’t. Crying, rain, pools, etc won’t take the water-resistant mascara off… but cleanser AND water will. You’re welcome).
Give those Lips a Tint
The Summer trend is a glossier look for the lips, or just a hint of color. Go for a hydrating lip gloss, or pick out a tinted lip balm that doubles as a hint of color and medicated lip balm. Or really want to amp up your lips? Pick a colorful lip plumper (this one is limited edition)!
Set Your Makeup
Back to making sure all your Summer makeup stays in place… be sure to set it! You can use either a setting spray or setting powder. Both will do the same job: they lock in your look. You’ll just get a different ‘finished’ look. The setting spray provides a dewy finish, while the setting powder provides more of a matte look. Skin type here will also matter; choose a spray for normal to dry skin; choose the powder for normal to oily.
Protect Your Skin
When I polled some gals on Facebook, I learned that some apply sunscreen before makeup… others apply it after. But get this, what if you could get sun protection without messing with your makeup at all? I’m pumped about this new SPF 25 finishing powder. (Tutorial video). It comes with a built in brush, and just a couple pumps of the brush guard and you get sun protection, as well as a ‘filter’ on your Summer makeup. What do I mean by that? It basically blurs out fine lines and wrinkles. So go snap some pics at the beach with your kids (get in that picture mama!)
But wait, you might be wondering, is setting powder the same as finishing powder? They’re different. Setting powder sets makeup, while finishing powder has the SPF rating, and it acts as a ‘filter’ by smoothing out your face. Wear one, wear both, it’s totally up to you and what you want for your skin.
