I’ve always had a difficult relationship with my brows. We all have a part of our looks that we wish we could change (I’m not the only one, right?) For me, it’s always been my eyebrows. Growing up, I had blonde hair, and dark eyebrows — a combination I loathed and wanted to be different, no matter how many times my mom told me it was the look of a “French beauty.”
I was so desperate to get my brows to “fit in” with the rest of my look that when I was in middle school I did something drastic… I dyed my hair black so they’d more closely match my eyebrows. (BIGGEST MISTAKE EVER).
Then in high school, since I worked in a hair salon, I thought I’d give an eyebrow wax a try, if only to tame my brows and save myself some time from all the time I spent tweezing. Not a good idea either. My brows looked okay afterward (kind of), but the wax burned my skin. This was not the fault of the technician, I should say. I have super sensitive thin skin… I should have known, or at least tested out the wax first, that it might bother my skin.
So, fast forward to today. I still regularly tweeze stray hairs, but I’ve also come to realize that they’re not totally terrible. And in fact, when I take care of them appropriately they can actually give my face shape and finish my look, if you will.
Full disclosure: I have a makeup company, Choose Your Beautiful. But the reason I shared all my oops and mistakes with my brows along the way is why I’m so obsessed with Younique’s brow liner and brow palette. I wouldn’t write about it if I wasn’t! Plus, now that I’ve aged a few years (*cough cough*) since high school, it’s also helped me embrace and love my eyebrows.
For starters, they’re both super easy to use. The liner fills in my sparse spots and gives them just the definition they need. The brow palette gives my brows an even more finished look with the help of some highlighters too. Both of the products? Game changers.
I actually admire my own brows now. That statement almost makes me want to laugh. (And if you laughed , I understand). But, I am being serious. My eyes have always been one of my favorite features, and they are so even more so now — because of the way my brows frame them. It really is amazing just the difference a little makeup can make in how we feel about our looks and the confidence that often comes with it.
