Little miss and I were at gymnastics a few weeks back when she put her tiny little toddler hand into her pocket, pretended to grab something, and then lifted her hand high into the air. “Sparkles!” she shouted! (And yes, at first, I was a tad confused… but thankful there was no ‘real’ glitter in there).
The gymnastics teacher loved it and asked for some sparkles too.Little miss obliged, digging into her pocket again, and spreading “sparkles” all over the teacher’s head, as if she was spreading fairy dust.
Since then pretty much anytime little miss has pockets, she’ll do the same thing. And every time, it brings a smile to whoever sees it, whether we’re at the grocery store, on a walk with the dog, anywhere.
In turn, ever since that gymnastics class, it’s become a mantra to me of sorts, kind of like spreading joy wherever you go.
Everyone can use a bit of sparkle in their life, a little pick me up when they feel down, or a little sprinkle of sparkles for a job well done (because that should always be celebrated too). And little miss teaches me so much about spreading joy and kindness and love, and she never, ever holds any of her “sparkles” back.
I’ll be honest, while sparkles and glitter might be construed as similar, I see glitter as something that sticks around even when you don’t want it too. But these sparkles that little miss passes out unabashedly? They’re more of a feeling, and you can never ever have enough of them.
How will you spread sparkles? Feel free to use the hashtag #spreadsparkles!
