I’ve been getting a lot of questions lately about Younique… not only why I started using Younique makeup and skincare, but what makes the company different, and why I started my business with them when there are so many direct sales companies out there.
Let me start by saying this: I never, ever expected to get into network marketing. I have always been an introvert, someone much more comfortable listening rather than talking, someone better at writing than speaking. So networking and sales? It was well beyond my comfort zone!
But, as I’ve learned over the past few years, a comfort zone is a funny thing. We stick to what we’re comfortable with, because, well, we’re comfortable. But it doesn’t afford much room for growth. That’s a post for another day though.
So… why Younique?
I found products that I could actually use and wear.
My mom used to – and still occasionally does — call me her “sensitive girl.” (I have two younger sisters). Most fragrances give me headaches; I can never walk through the perfume section of a department store without tearing up. My skin reacts to everything — both food (I look like I’ve been sunburnt if I eat a variety of preservatives) and, naturally, skin products. I tried soooo many eye liners over the years; they all made me break out along my lash line.
I decided to try Younique, because, heck, why not? A naturally-based mineral line of makeup and skincare seemed like a safe bet, especially with a 90-day Love It Guarantee. So I tried it, could wear it… and naturally fell in love with the products. (And continue to fall in love with the products… it’s crazy how many new products have launched since I started in 2014).
The company’s mission
Younique’s motto is to “uplift, empower, and validate” women around the globe…part of that is offering the incredible business opportunity to run our own makeup/skincare business, but it goes MUCH deeper than that.
Derek Maxfield and Melanie Maxfield Huscroft, a brother and sister team, started Younique because they wanted to help fund a free retreat in the hills of Utah, a place for women who were sexually abused as children to start the healing process. It’s because of Younique, and the generous founders, that the Younique Foundation retreat, along with its sister organization Defend Innocence, exists today. Younique started — and continues to thrive — in no small part because of this mission. (If you or anyone you know could benefit from this free retreat, please visit youniquefoundation.org to learn more).
The sisterhood
I didn’t expect to find a sisterhood when I started with Younique. After all, we all sell the same products, and we live all over the country (and world). But the women I’ve met — online! — and become friends with because of Younique? It continues to astound me.
We lift each other up, we help each other, we’re there for each other — and not just in terms of training purposes. I count my Younique sisters as some of my closest friends… and it’s a bit crazy to me that we were brought together by our online businesses! It’s one reason I can’t wait for convention down in New Orleans this year — it’s one of the rare times so many of us are together in one spot.
So those are three of my reasons… and I feel like it doesn’t truly encompass everything this company and business has meant to me and my family. It’s been a blessing in more ways than I can count. If you’d like to talk more about why I do what I do — and how you can do it too! — I’m always here to chat.
